"I will always keep myself mentally alert, physically strong and morally straight
and I will shoulder more than my share of the task whatever it may be, one-hundred-percent and then some.
Gallantly will I show the world that I am a specially selected and well-trained Soldier."

Are you ready for the ACFT?
The Army has been talking about making changes to the way they evaluate a soldier's fitness. The slow moving Army has finally decided to execute and the momentum of change won't be stopped. No Later Than October 2020 soldiers will begin the new evaluation. The period between now and then are critical for soldier development.
The days of being a beefy powerlifter or scrawny runner are in the past. Soldiers need to be cross functional with a powerful hip hinge, high aerobic capacity, and the agility to change direction explosively. The test is no longer as simple as doing some pushups in your room and the occasional run. Active duty soldiers have the benefit of fully stocked gyms, regularly scheduled PT, and easily available fitness experts.
Reservists and National Guardsmen will have the biggest challenge overcoming the obstacles of the new test. Reservists have to balance work and family on top of being a soldier. As a member of the National Guard, I understand the challenges reservists face with getting to the gym. A training plan simply won't be enough to get you where you need to be. Soldiers require and deserve the attention of a full time coach to adapt their plans to account for their busy lives.
