MOUNTAIN MULTISPORT - CRIT VIDEO ACTION

3/1/2017

This past Sunday I raced in the Historic 7th Ave Criterium in downtown Hendersonville, NC.  This race was fast and furious.  I spent the first 15 minutes just trying to work my way to the front of the race.  Once I finally made it to the front my anxiety levels dropped and I could enjoy the race.  I don't want to go into too much detail because of the youtube video.  Basically, triangular crit course with sweeping wide turn at the top of the course.  At the bottom of the course there is a sharp right turn that goes straight into a very minor upward grade.  The combination of this grade and my lack of explosive power led to a three man group to get away on the final lap.  They opened a gap up cresting the tiny hill and I could not catch back up to them within the short distance to the finish.  I ended up with 7th overall because of not going hard enough all the way to the finish line.  I probably could have gotten fourth if I just sprinted all the way.  Lesson learned and it won't happen again.

Weather: Early Evening; Mid 50s (F), minimal wind)
Field Size: 30ish
Teams: Lees-McRae, Frazier Cycling, Miller School of Albemarle

Please enjoy the video!
